| lots of cars back then were installed with the "automatic" seat belt as an acessory. Nissan later moved it to the B pillar since the door mounted seat belt was hazardous in a high impact accident. Lets say you would get in a car accident and your door went flying off....there goes your seatbelt and well you are free to be thrown anywhere in or out of the car. However, the B pillar will most likely not be flying anywhere.
